He who knows others is clever; he who knows himself  is enlightened.
                                                 - Lao-tse

Life should not be viewed only from the prism of suffering.

No doubt that suffering would give you heavy pain, but valuable lessons to make stronger in terms of actions and future endeavors. In fact, seeing the sufferings of people has pushed Buddha in the path of enlightenment.

Many people wrongly connote that enlightenment is simply denying all the worldly pleasures and lead a hermit's life. This concept is totally ridiculous. Enlightenment is a possibility field to know the mechanics of life beyond physical plane and also to find our connection with the Creator.

The essence of enlightenment is respecting life in whatever the form it is. When we become sensitive to everything around us, it means we are perfectly in tune with the symphony of universe.

When the whole world is immersed in the thick of celebrations on Christmas Day on 25.12.2011, some lesser mortals (27 people) in Nigeria were ruthlessly massacred in a sectarian violence by some Islamic militants.

Nigeria is Africa's most populous country with a staggering 155 million population. The country's population is by and large evenly divided between Muslims ( 50%) and Christians (40 %). The brutality of incident reflects the deep-rooted religious fanaticism.

Religion has risen its ugly ahead in recent times and this is not an isolated incident that occurred in a corner of the world. We are

The other day when I flipped through a news magazine, I found a gadget that boiled my blood. It was a gold-plated 32 GB pen drive made from 24 carat gold i.e 99.9 percent pure gold leaf with a jaw-dropping price tag of Rs. 45,111.

Immediately, my mind echoed with the words of Sam Pitroda who in a seminar lambasted that the great minds of the world occupied themselves in solving the problems of few rich people who really don't have problems at all.

Monday, December 19, 2011

My first brush with Sam Pitroda's rousing lectures is when I randomly surfed the internet on one day and landed up in IIM- A website (Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad). It was a stunning video of Sam's valedictory lecture at the Institute titled "Nation Building". After I listened to that enticing lecture, I instantly became his fan.

Sam is  fantastic orator!   He always speaks with statistics. He craved to do something for his motherland that had driven him to come home and contribute immensely of his expertise on Information & Communication Technology. He shuttles between his US home where he is having his own company: C-SAM Inc and India.

In India English still rules the nation as the most vibrant and viable communication vehicle. There is no dispute in saying that English is still the mainstay language for our educational and communication needs.

The language has a special charm in Southern and North-Eastern parts of the country. Though I was grown up with my mother tongue Telugu as a medium of instruction up to class 10, my father injected an irresistible charm in me to hone my English speaking and writing skills at  the age of 6 or 7. Though English was not taught properly in my school at that time, it is my dad who

West Bengal   is in the  spotlight for all wrong reasons, these days.  Less than a week after 93 lives (maximum patients)  went into thin  air in AMRI Hospital fire incident in Kolkata, another tragic incident struck the State yesterday (15.12.11).  This time the death is not accidental but a case of consuming spurious liquor in South 24 Parganas district which lead to the tragic death of 167 people who are  mainly daily earners viz.  labourers, hawkers and rickshaw-pullers.   Preliminary investigations indicate that methyl alcohol toxicity caused to respiratory and cardiac failure.

This is not the case happened first time.  Past cases in some other States cast a slur on our enforcement mechanism. These recurring

The zing of Kolaveri Di Song

kolaveri di Variety is  spice of life.  The reel life thrives more on it.  When the piracy and internet badly hit the revenues of  movies,  it is quite natural that the producers take a calibrated approach to get the cash registers ringing.

After Rahman's 'jai ho' song from Slumdog millionaire,   it is the song of this debutant : Anirudh Ravichander (nephew of Rajnikant)  from down South which grabbed the nation's attention with its phenomenal success.

The promotional song ' Kolaveri Di' from the Tamil Film 'Moondru' has all the necessary spicy ingredients to make the youth crazy. It was the song sung by hero Dhanush, the son-in-law of actor Rajnikanth.

The song  is  instantaneous and composing  took  just 5 minutes and lyrics were made by the singer himself which  are jest with broken English  of a drunkard lover  who failed in love with starting words ' flop song, soup song'.

International Youth Day : 12th August, 2011

Since 2000 onwards, 12th August is being observed as 'International Youth Day' all over the  world  as per United Nation's declaration.  The theme chosen this year is ' Change Our World'.

With a staggering 243 million population in the age group of 10-19 years, India stands tall as the  largest youth population in the world.

Youth symbolize energy,  ambitions, and perseverance.   However, it is appalling that basic education and vocational training are still  not being given adequate attention, thereby the youth are wandering rudderlessly  settling with lesser fortune  as  unskilled workers and leading lives far below the standard.   We failed miserably  to deliver even after 64 years of Independence.

After Swami Vivekananda and Swami Rama Tirtha swayed the American soil with Eastern Wisdom, it was Paramahansa Yogananda who went to US in 1920 to represent India in the international congress of Religious Liberals. Like Vivekananda did with his famous Chicago speech, Yogananda deeply engraved the Eastern Thought on American minds.

In most parts of India, everybody knows his famous book "Autobiography of Yogi' which is a very famous biography. Yogananda eloquently narrated all experiences of his life in a simple prose. The influence of Swami Vivekananda and Paramahansa Yogananda on American psyche is such that in 1930, Dr. Wendell Thomas, author and former professor at the College of the City of New York wrote a book "Hinduism Invades

There was a time when Encyclopaedia of Britannica & Americana in their physical form adorn our libraries as the most distinct entities, and to know anything in depth, they are the authorities. During my childhood days, I use to visit libraries more often. In such visits I use to take a glimpse of these encyclopaedias and a huge respect outpours from my heart being the mankind's whole knowledge that is systematically arranged, more so, alphabetically. But the drawback of hardbound encyclopaedias is that the subject can not be updated instantly to bring out new insights/ research/ facts in sciences and humanities. At the same time, we can not escape from the fact that new information and new statistics only make the subject more holistic.

Some people perish in the course of their struggle. Only few will raise to change their destiny.

Honey comes  from a natural source.  So use it as an alternative to sugar.

For a nation afflicted with 40 million diabetics, India can't take the risk  of  increasing the number further.   Healthy life style reduce the chances of  diabetes.

Intake of honey stirred with lemon juice and lukewarm water early in the morning keeps the digestive track clean.   It will also help in absorbing the excessive fat deposits in the body.  In fact honey has 20 % less calories than sugar.   Unlike sugar, honey is enriched with important minerals like calcium and iron as well as essential vitamins like B1, B2, B5, B6 and C.  It has also antioxidants.

Do you know that a honey bee makes 1/12th of teaspoon of honey in it's life time?  So friends, these are not honey words, but naked truth !

Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.” ― Abraham Lincoln

Success is a journey and not a destination. In fact, there is no straight jacket formula for success. Though somebody may inspire us, butto be successful, we must tread our own path.

Abraham Lincoln in fact is a bundle of failures before he ascended the presidency of US.

Ralph Waldo Emerson says that “In my walks, every man I meet is my superior in some way, and in that I learn from him.

Every human being is potentially unique in his or her way of doing things coupled with abilities and capabilities specifically endowed by the Almighty. What we have to do is make everything and everyone as a learning experience. With this mindset, I try to learn something from everybody and never feel ashamed of, because the great people already disowned what they knew.

Recently I was crippled with the sudden death of my aunt who died accidentally when the horse carrying her slipped  into the valley when their family was on a pilgrimage  to famous Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhund. The manner of death really shocked me and threw me out of gear for some weeks. After limping back to normalcy, I turned more spiritual. The incident had taken me to a new level of wisdom about uncertainty of life. I felt the  so called predicting business about future is nothing but a farce. What lies ahead of next moment is flatly unpredictable.

No doubt the image of India, after surfacing of 2G Spectrum scam, has severely dented our image and put us in total ignominy. However, we need to put a brave front to tackle the menace of corruption. Anna Hazare through his recent massive protest programme with youngsters as his foot soldiers almost shook the Establishment and our political masters appeared to have come to terms with the new reality and hope blossoms for brighter days ahead.

One reason why  America stood as the world leader is uncompromising patriotism of it's people and feel pride of their achievements. Over and above, their confidence to stand tall in all human endeavor made them the front-runners in all facets of human activity.

The Anna Hazare led public protest  on the  issue of corruption has still not faded from my memory.   What was started as protest programme turned into a mass hysteria as it  got a tsunami of support, especially from educated young.     The cause for which Anna stood is absolutely necessary in today's turbulent times.     Corruption  does not simply mean  indulging in financial irregularities or siphoning money or showing favoritism or violation of law.    Failure to give better service delivery i.e. what the Anna Team coined as Public Charter also amounts to failure to public service.

The whole issue here is service oriented mind which I  think in Govt. Sector is severely lacking.

Somewhere I read that boldness changes everything. It creates opportunities to redefine excellence to lead  industry and  transform tomorrow.

If you come out from comfort-zone, then the difficult things start appearing easy and a sense of accomplishment comes on reaching the target. In fact, success is an assortment of perseverance, steadfastness, boldness to walk the path of difficulties.

Boldness is simply not raw courage to face any situation. It is to have guts to do things in spite of all odds.

The whole paradigm of HRD (Human Resource Development) revolves around one concept : How to improve the productivity of an employee ?

The company delegates this responsibility to Human Resources Department (HRD) whose job is to constantly strive to improve the work atmosphere and mindset of employees through a host of measures and increase their output. Before anything worthwhile is injected into their veins, the first thing they have to do is, change their value system.

Employees have to be motivated in such a way that their performance matters not only to their professional lives but bring a perceptible change in their personal lives. They have to be convinced that beyond money, there are some invaluable things which the money can't buy. So it is a soul-stirring exercise for which a firm ground work need to be done.

He dreamt of becoming a pilot, but turned out as space scientist. We all know him as "Missile Man'. His contribution to Indian Space Programme is worth to be written in platinum letters. Above all, he served the nation as President and set a permanent home in the hearts of millions of Indians.

APJ Abdul Kalam is the man who inspires millions of people through his exemplary living. His vision: 2020 brought closer to children whom he asked to strive for the country to become a developed nation by 2020.

After a brief stint in NASA (America), Dr. Kalam worked in DRDO and later joined ISRO.  He gave thrust to the Indian Space Programme through indigenous technology and in the process many milestones were achieved.

Any nation's prosperity largely depends on its people's attitude towards growth.   If majority of the lot are positive minds, no force could stop them to turn into a vibrant super power like Japan.

Though geographically lesser fortunate as it's large terrain is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcano eruptions, but the people's commitment to development turned this country of Rising Sun into   global economic super power.

The most telling aspect of the Japan is it's ability to quickly embark from the ravages of the World War - II.  By swiftly y healing its war wounds, Japan marched forward in terms of economic progress. It is now the world leader in auto-mobiles and consumer electronics.

ATMs (Automatic Teller Machines) completely changed the landscape of  Personal Banking in  recent years.  But without attentive human intervention, they remain as dumb machines or you could aptly call them as Autocratic Teller Machines !!

The other day I desperately tried  to draw cash from my bank's ATM  on  pay day.    Like other earlier countless occasions, it shamelessly  tittered  with 'NO'.  I luckily saved my situation by taking cash from   nearby ATM of a private bank where there seems to be no dearth of  cash on any given day.

In a world of restless ambitions, physical fitness is so vital not only to embark higher goals in life,  but  remain cheerful, disease-free all through that journey. The daily dose of motivation to carve out sculpted bodies easily comes for celebrities, especially film personalities. Since they are under constant public gaze,  they get the unparalleled thrust to do the fitness regimen compare to their poor cousins in ordinary folks.

We have Salman Khan before us who now a days make others to

The recent ban on screening of  film 'Aarakshan' (Hindi) in some States like Uttar Pradesh  has created some furore.   Though the film has been cleared by Censor Board, some State Governments citing  possible law &  order problems have banned the film in their respective States which amounts to denial of freedom of  expression.

The moot point here is how  State Governments can ban a film when it is cleared by Central Censor Board which is a statutory body.  If anything objectionable is there,  it is the look out of Censor Board and  a blanket ban by  State Governments on the pretext of law & order problems has no merit.   This lead  the producers went to the  Supreme Court which cleared the decks for release of film in  Uttar Pradesh.

The 2G Spectrum scandal  and irregularities in awarding contracts for Common Wealth Games not only dented our but has brought one core issue to  limelight : CORRUPTION.

This is first time in India that  a Minister  and top level bureaucrats including an MP and some businessmen were put behind bars for their role  and the highest judiciary has kept its vigilant eyes on the investigation.   So we are in the midst of  turbulent times.

Kapoor Generation's third  iconic actor after Prthviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor is  Shammi Kapoor  who did not get success initially for some years.

He is a man of incredible energy. He is called as Elvis Presley of India. He has a unique style of dancing by moving the whole body, injecting youthful energy into his songs.

With regard to his dancing style, he tells that he doesn't buy the idea of choreographer composing steps for his songs. Instead he takes extempore dancing and don't repeat the same steps if he was asked a retake.

Amidst innumerable pulls and pressures of daily life, it is quite natural to drift away with rising blood pressure, offending our bodies to an irreparable level. Sometimes, it looks that the whole wisdom accumulated over the years take a frantic ride and raw emotions overpower us. The sole culprit is our  externality of mind obsessed too much with worldly affairs.

The anger when it swells out of proportion , causes considerable damage in relationships. We loose sheen in daily pleasures of life like listening to a favourite song, watching a good movie or chit-chat with family/ children.

Development is key to any problem. When people are deprived of basic facilities like roads, drinking water, sanitation, education, irrigation and communication , naturally the seed of discontentment sprouts which may cascade into mass movement. The Naxal problem and Telangana row are latest examples of problems on socio-economic front brewing the country. Unless, we take the problem head on, it will become intractable.

Before, I actually dwell on the Telangana tangle, let me make it clear that neither I am pro nor against for a separate Telangana State. I am simply concerned to the socio-economic development of the region with political empowerment so that the people are not felt isolated in their own land.

Considering the magnitude of problem, Govt. of India set up a committee headed by retired Justice Srikrishna to submit a report after consultations with all stakeholders. The Committee submitted

Rakhi Sawant, an item girl of Hindi cinema and one of the exquisite dancers who had some famed reality shows like "Big Boss", " Nach Baliye" and Rakhi ka Swyamwar" on her crown ,  told  media  in her Delhi  press meet, a couple of days ago, appears to be whacky.   She should have restrained to make such caustic remarks.   There seems to be no qualms  by Rakhi and some media acted so irresponsibly by asking very  silly questions.  What precipitated  further is Rakhi replied with equal breath.   Her lewd comments on yoga guru Baba Ramdev are not only offending but  totally uncalled for.  These are excerpts published

It is so natural for you to compare with others.  A healthy dose of competition of course, helps you to fine-tune your abilities.  But mechanical comparison will only take away the sheen of your life.

Each of us are unique.

Noted spiritual guru Sadhguru Jaggie Vasudev says that every human being is endowed with unique talents by Almighty.   So we should not indulge in comparison wars.   So being envious of what others have or what others get more than you will only crpple you. This false comparison is mother of all the miseries.

As narrated by Sadhguru , a high ranking executive was brought to him by his relative to bring back to normalcy as he was so crippled  after his colleague got higher promotion than him. As the story went, this executive lost all his hope in life and fell sick.  Sadhguru  advised him to cast off all such idiotic thinking pattern and think beyond egoistic mindset. He was convinced that he is already in an envious position  in the Company with  plum pay and having beautiful family to enjoy the life fully. He was adequately convinced that there should not be any reason for him to feel bad about his colleague getting promotion. He was also advised that recurring replay of that incident would only crush him.

This piece of advice saved  that executive who despite being educated but was overshadowed with materialistic outlook  and finally and Sadhguru opened up his eyes.

It is a virtual hell to continue in a job when your heart is eyeing for some other dream profession.

Doing a job is of course for those needy bucks. But, settling with less than what you ought to be  should not be accepted as a fate.  Here the whole wisdom lies in changing your destiny.

Most people think that they should have high IQ (Intelligence Quotient) to score high in life.   But, what is needed more than IQ is, RQ i.e. Risk Quotient. It is the ability to endure the risk and explore the uncharted territories. You can otherwise call it the amount of guts required to take a bold decision to tread a path for success.

But in the most Indians, this RQ is abysmally low, because they are the

MOTHER'S DAY - 8th May, 2011

Every Second Sunday of May in the year is marked as 'Mother's Day', especially in India. Though the day is different in other parts of the world between March and May, but certainly they observe Mother's day. On this day, children give gifts to their mothers in honour of motherhood.

My daughters have reminded me a day before that they want to give a gift to their mother. This made me feel happy, because their tiny minds thought on their own, without prompting from others. This kind of behaviour will nurture the roots of family bond.

In fact, we all should owe to our mothers for what we are today in our

Want to look smarter ? Yes, it is a deeply embedded instinct in all of us irrespective of gender and age group. But the problem is the consistency of that desire to ensure fitness of body and alertness of mind.

Most of us simply abandon  to look smarter with age.  But everybody feels envious of seeing other people as smart creatures.

A regular regimen sculpts an envious body and glaring skin. The brain also performs superbly well with early rise and maintaining fitness regimen. Taking fruits as an alternative to other breakfasts will help to look younger. Enough water intake will prevent dehydration of body. Maintaining punctuality for lunch & dinner and adequate sleep are some of the core health principles which can not be neglected.

Oral hygiene is very important. For teeth care, brush twice a day  and for fresh breath, use a mouthwash.

Do yoga and meditation daily and don't creep the idea of aging into your mind.  When your mind is young with an adequate learning curve, your face automatically beams with radiance and natural smartness permeates your system
