Somewhere, I read that success is not a destination, but a relentless journey.

You can't live long cherishing only yesteryears success.  Life is a forward march and what you do now matters a lot than living on past laurels.  It means, you must have a fighter's spirit to win each situation into your fold.  Sometimes, even when success would not embrace you, it doesn't mean that you allow things to rot.

When I wake up in the mornings, I eagerly look for such real-life stories of people who could inspire the world with their breathtaking bravery in dealing with their situations. And today it is  Bhupendra Tripathi of Gujarat who truly made my day !

If we go into his story,  when Tripathi was diagnosed with cancer, doctors found  a tumour in his two vertebras (spinal chord).  How he encountered the doctors & hospital staff,  better  to listen from his own words :

I requested the hospital staff to stop addressing me as patient and instead call me a fighter, a hero or a champ. After all, I was fighting twin battles of paralysis and cancer. Finally, after 11-12 months of therapy, I was declared cancer free. There were huge celebrations at the hospital and my home (Source :  )

To cut the story short, Tripathy, though lost his vision subsequently due to complicated treatment procedures, but he did not allow defeat seep into his system. His fighting persona made him to clinch a government job - Manager  in Reserve Bank of India at Ahmedabad.

There are so many such unsung heroes and  when their stories come into mainstream news, they become overnight celebrities !

After a long time, the Superstar of Kollywood (Tamil Film World)  is acting to his age. His latest movie 'Kabali' which was released yesterday is a record of sorts.

A newspaper in it's review on the movie said that the movie is a 'drag'. Another review opined that the story, perhaps, needed a tighter screenplay.

The craze for Rajinikanth is unparalleled to any of his generation of actors.  Still this Tamil Film God mesmerises his audience with his own style of mannerisms, dialogue delivery. Some corporate entities in South India, declared yesterday as holiday to enable their employees to watch their favourite actor's movie.  Some companies even offered free tickets.

The beauty of this giant actor is not forgetting his roots.  His journey from a simple bus-conductor to the highest paid actor is very inspiring.  His work ethics wonder the younger directors.  No pride at all.  He mingles with all, without any slightest pride.

Rajinikanth, outside his acting life, is a very good human being. When any of his films don't earn the expected earnings, people say that he offsets the losses of producers from his pocket.

I personally feel that the reason behind his huge fan-following and stardom is, his generous personality.  He has no enemies or even rivals in film world.  Another interesting revelation is that Rajini never wears wig or apply any creams in daily life.  Further, he is dead against to do ad-films.  The reason he says is : I don't like to vouch for the products which I don't use !

Getting roles even at 65, that too hero's roles happens only with Rajinikanth.

Call it Rajini mania !

It is the Land of the Thunder Dragon, a creature of Teutonic mythology, usually represented as breathing fire and having a reptilian body and sometimes wings.  In fact this dragon is the symbol of their National Flag.

Bhutan lies in the eastern Himalayas, sandwiched between China and India. Inspite of geographical limitations being a landlocked country, Bhutan's people are the world's happiest people.  It is the country with least carbon dioxide deposits in the atmosphere.

It has a great legacy of planting a thousand saplings by every pregnant woman before her delivery.  Perhaps, this idea is driven by environmental concerns with an eye to  have more greenery to make their  country the best liveable place on Earth.

Happiness is synonymous with Bhutan.  The unofficial Reference Guide Wikipedia says that in 1972, Bhutan's fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck declared that "Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross national Product''. In fact this concept is based on four pillars: sustainable development, preservation and promotion of culture, conservation of the environment and good governance.

To measure progress according to these pillars, Bhutan adopted a development index in 2008 to reflect GNH values, set as benchmarks to track policies and performance of the countries. This index takes into account the GDP per capita, life expectancy, social support and freedom to make life choices as indicators of happiness.

Due to  Bhutan's  sustained efforts in convincing the world to follow Gross National Happiness as a barometer to gauge human happiness, United Nations finally declared March 20 as World Happiness Day  in 2013.  An Annual World Happiness Report is being brought out  to gauge countries on Happiness Index,

In 2016 report, Bhutan's rank is at a comfortable 84, out of 157 countries. Where as India's rank  is at 118, way behind neighbouring countries like China which is pegged at 83, Pakistan 92, and Bangladesh at 110.

The moral of the story is,  India  must learn a lot from this tiny Himalayan country !

Playwright Edward Bond rightly said " All you now do is pursue your private objectives within society. Instead of us being a community, everybody is asked to seek their own personal ends.  It's called competition.  And competition is antagonism.

The other day, when I entered into a hospital premises to meet a  dentist, an unexpected opponent welcomed me.

A stray dog continuously barked at me and  I was forced to lift a stone to save myself from it. Anybody in my situation would certainly act the same way.  Though, I convinced myself that I should not think much of that episode, a part of me watched my own thought process on the incident.

When I gathered the reasons , I found answers.  I was hurt not because the dog barked at me.  I was hurt because, I lifted the stone with an intention to beat it.  As a survival need, I did that but my heart pondered deeply on how to tame it.  I said to myself : Don't do any act that may injure other living beings.  This is the ultimate lesson of spirituality.  You being the human, the crown of creation,  if react this way, how can you raise yourself in life ?  Luckily, I did not pelt a stone on that dog but walked out of the situation safely.

Though we all have material  goals, the spiritual goals come above them.  That's why famous psychologist Abraham Maslow in his famous  Theory of Hierarchy of Needs put Self Actualisation at the top of the pyramid.

What is Self Actualisation ?    It  refers to the need for personal growth and show equanimity on all living beings, including animal and  plant world.

The best barometer to gauge a person's reputation is how many opponents he/she has ? If the number swells rapidly, it is time to pause and review the entire gamut of relationships.  The best way to keep good relationships is to treat all beings equally.  When you treat a person  according to his position on social ladder, you are indirectly creating more opponents in your life. Nobody wants to be unequally treated and in fact, it is the greatest sin !
