There is no friend as loyal as a book    - Ernest Hemingway

At 45, I am not overzealous with material possessions.  I just want my daily life  move effortlessly without  loosing steam in daily chores which otherwise bore me at every moment.  In the process of maintaining steadiness, I rely on one reliable source i.e. books.

Books occupy a good part of my life.  Not only   they provide me very valuable information and update my knowledge, they help me to marshal up my inner resources to think differently, creatively so as to live each moment passionately.

YOGA ON CHAIR

Yoga is the boon given by  Rishis in India to live with vitality. Those who complain with no time, could now do it even on their chairs.  The above chart shows the asanas you could do on the chair.

When your body becomes flexible like a rubber, it means that each of your cell could give optimum performance leading to robustness and decease-free life.

LIVE WITH HOPE - A SHORT VERSE

Last week (November, 23, 2015) , when I read a news item which reported  suicide of  25 year-old woman at Yamuna Bank Metro station in  Delhi,  it ached my heart deeply.    The woman named Anjali ended her life out of depression over a failed wedding match.

By jumping in front of a train entering the station, the woman's death was instantaneous.  The manner of her ending life speaks her deep frustration.   Losing hope precipitated  her to wrap up  the earthly journey.   When I reflected on the incident, my pen wrote this light verse :

Don't sink
but sync with time.

Life is precious
So, be cautious

Time is set automatically
for everyone's flight;

So don't be haste the end
with your  own manoeuvre !

In this world of achievers, only few would carve out a path for others.

Most of us dismiss at first sight  this near impossible feat.  Some laggards even cast serious doubts of those who achieved it. But truth must  told unperturbedly.

Swimming, cycling and running individually are very energy intensive workouts.   Anybody could rarely think of achieving something with a mix of these three disciplines.

INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Image result for inclusive development
You can't blame anybody blindly.  There must be some cogent reason behind it  and I always wish anybody should  make only constructive criticism.

While doing so,  statistics may help you.

When it comes to statistics, they  always grab my attention. Because, they speak louder than words.   Over the years, I collected vast amounts of  statistics, not with an eye to write but to enlighten myself on issues of  my  interest.

The quality of life is weighed  through growth and development.  To know, where a particular State stands on these metrics, surveys always help us.   The governments must continuously work at macro  and micro level  so that  they help people in giving high standard of living.

APP-DRIVEN CLEANLINESS IN DELHI

Logo
These days for each problem, there seems to be a  solution from technology.

Though, E-governance has brought  some perceptive change in the citizen services,  India still has to travel a lot to bring it on missionary mode.

Some States are just  making baby-steps in this direction, but Delhi  is virtually on sprint with the creation of Android App called Swachh Delhi.  It aims to get the garbage cleared from  the roads and public places on war-footing.

Partnering with citizens directly like this is a new idea and hope this drive helps city government   to provide  garbage-free roads.

THIS IS TRULY AN URBAN APP

Cover art
Urban life has its own sort of needs.  Because the pace of life here dictates  to run with time without loosing  action.

Imagine that the end-user is not connected with service provider which endangers both equally.

Technology by playing a catalyst role not only forge a better relationship but helps to improve the quality service at affordable price.

I am living in South Delhi for the last five years and whenever I call a local electrician even for a small job,  he charges me a whopping Rs.300/- per visit and I have no option but  to endure the ordeal silently.   In another instance, I had to wait for a plumber for 24 hours to replace my burnt-water pump.   Getting AC mechanic in time is equally distressing  especially in the peripheral areas in mega cities in India.

But the democratization of information through Internet give a real  power to  this virtual world which is growing exponentially.   The buzz  now is, app-driven solutions to the services across the spectrum that confront daily life.

SONAM MANTRA

When success embraces you, you become a overnight celebrity.   The quantum of success decides the celebrity status. Then youth worship you and you will be in limelight for all good reasons.

The advantage for screen personalities is that they get quick validation from society than any other section of people.

But for a writer, the formula is little different.  Here the gestation period is too long unless an icon in the society vouch for the fact.  In business field also, people get fame reasonably in short period.

The pulse of society is driven mainly by youth.  Being blessed with one of the highest youth population in the world, India is a perfect barometer to reflect the trend of youth.   Youth are mainly influenced by  cinema,  so the screen-world mirrors the trend of society.

ELEVEN COMMANDMENTS OF LIFE

Book Review :

The beauty of Self Help books is the contextual insights that help to improve your productivity through self effort.  It is raising your bar of efficiency little by little and virtually there is no upper limit.

Live sessions of personality development gurus  will no doubt transform you by waking up from slumber and chugging your engine to success.

Competition, success are now a days more synonymous  with Private Sector in India where the employees need to hone their skills to fight everyday battles of professional life.  You need to adopt thousands of tricks to impress the customer.   The sales professionals work day is very energy intensive and unless they show up the results at the end of the day, their survival in the organisation becomes questionable.   For people of such background, this book is a minefield.

I bought this book in May, 2013 and my intention to buy the same  is to understand Santosh Nair's core principles for life maximization.      His expertise lies in sales, leadership and entrepreneurship skills.   He is a known corporate trainer whose target work is productivity enhancement.

I have not been trained in this talent from anywhere.
I picked up the brushes during my class 10 and continued till
my graduation i.e. 1990. After that I stopped doing and
now it is 25 years of leaving this hobby.

HOW TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE AND YOUR JOB

      Book Review
Image result for how to enjoy your life and job book

Investing rupees hundred on this book more than a decade ago introduced to Carnegie's literature  and thereafter ignited me to  read more self help books of West.

The principles underlined in this best seller is known to everybody, but the implementation part  differentiates  a successful man from that of failed one.  In fact, this book is a compilation  from the two great books of Dale Carnegie : How to Win Friends and Influence People and How to Stop
Worrying and Start Living
.

Carnegie wrote these books in 1930s, but  the ideas and strategies he recommended remain unchanged as there would be no change in human dimension.  It is only the context changes but the thinking remains same in any generation.  New technologies may give new comforts but man's explorative mind don't alter with time.

BEST FREE RESOURCES ARE HERE FOR SUCCESS

In my numerous earlier posts, I dwelt at length the aim of this blog : Dig the World Wide Web for bringing  the best free resources in front of you for your personal growth.

Here I take the role of  perfume dealer. In the process of selling, he tests each perfume to find it's suitability before it is put to sale. This makes him to know more about perfumes and their quality.

In fact, this simile is an attempt to reflect my  deeper feelings of how best I could make this blog Number One Knowledge Portal in future.

DELHI - IS IT SMART CITY ?

A road in Kotla Mubarakpur in South Delhi, just touching South Ex market - courtesy: My smartphone Samsung E7

The present government is investing Rs.48,000 crores under the ambitious project called 'Smart Cities'.  It's a very good idea as such thought did not come to previous governments.   The basic infrastructure like better roads, sanitation, drinking water are long demands of people but due to one reason or other, they have taken back seat.  Our cities and towns urgently need a face-lift in basic infrastructure.

Being a  dweller of Delhi  for the past 5 years, I have my own views on this  city.

PULLING HIS LIFE

These are really unsung heroes of our lives.   Imagine a day when your maid takes a leave on being ill or you don't get a rickshaw to your last mile of destination.  Life almost comes to standstill.  Even a thought of it would swirl your mind.

Those who do manual labour  have a special  place in my heart.  The reason is simple.  I can't play their role  and that's why I would be little more compassionate when I pay for their services.    It is a kind of feeling blessed while  interacting with these humble souls.   Some times such interactions  give very valuable inputs  and help us for a course-correction in life.

THE LEADER IN YOU

At glance of Book at Amazon
At a glance of the Book
Book Review

Dale Carnegie is one of the foremost personality development gurus of 20th century in America.  Wikipedia dubbed him as writer and developer of famous courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

Now so many leadership courses are on offer at http://www.dalecarnegie.com/ and all the current courses are based on the ideology of  Carnegie whose books are sold everywhere in almost all railway stations through out India.  His famous books include How to Win Friends and Influence people and How to stop worrying & start living.

The above book is in fact not written by Dale Carnegie, but each chapter of the book starts with Carnegie's famous quote.  The chapters dwell at length on the real life situations underlying the core management principles of Carnegie.

The back flap of the book says  that the co-authors Stuart R. Levine and Michael A. Crom offers Carnegie's time-tested human relationship principles to demonstrate how anyone can harness creativity and enthusiasm to work more productively.  The book offers very rare insights of authors of how to strike a balance between work and leisure.  The book also guides you to achieve  your goals and increase your self-confidence and above all, the book facilitates you to identify your own leadership strengths.

GROWING TREND OF HEINOUS CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN IN INDIA

Courtesy: The Hindu dated Oct., 31, 2015

Face is the index of mind, the old adage goes.  But the face may not  always be the index of mind , especially  the rapist and murderer  of  this Andhra girl, Anuhya last year.

Esther Anuhya, is a Mumbai-based techie, hails from my home State Andhra Pradesh, India.  In fact, she belongs to a town where I studied my graduation - Machilipatnam.

The rape and murder of this 23 year old woman shocked Mumbai on 5th January, 2014 when the crime was reported.   No doubt that it is a premeditated incident with parallels to  Delhi Gang Rape Incident of 2012.  The convict Chandrabhan Sanap posing as cabbie  bluffed this girl when she arrived at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus,a suburban Kuirla  on that fateful morning. The convict  managed to drop at her home in Andheri for Rs.300, but he brutally raped and murdered her in the mid-way.  After that he   tried to get rid of the body in the bushes along the Eastern Express Highway in Bhandup.

HERE IS THE BAROMETER TO GAUGE THE NET FREEDOM

Ever since internet came into our lives, it has opened new doors of freedom.   The result is that information is flowing more freely which is a sign of vibrant democracy.

The best safeguard to ensure transparency in the flow of information is to put in place a regulatory framework which acts as a watch dog to monitor and bring to surface any bias, disparity in the process.

A THOUGHT ON THOUGHT

Your thought is like a
rainbow-colour bird
perched on your hand.
Learn to be still, observe.
Take a silent gaze on it;
Then translate that experience into
your signature style verse or prose .

Any delay in stillness
may cause the thought-bird fly away.
But, when you learn the stillness,
more thought birds fly towards you,
which means more fodder to write,
of course naturally !

GOD - A STORY OF REVELATION - DEEPAK CHOPRA

Book Review

America calls  Deepak Chopra as New Age Spiritual Sage who brought spirituality to the centre-stage of everyday life in United States.  This Indian-American doctor worked tirelessly in his almost entire career correlating the science's unanswered questions with Eastern Spirituality.

I have more than 5 books of Dr. Chopra in my kitty that helps me to refer quite often for my writings.  His all time best seller Ageless Body Timeless Mind must not be missed to read.

He is a prolific writer with a wide reach and truly a publisher's delight as most of his books are best sellers and some of them translated into many languages. He is  a celebrity writer who has a dedicated page at on-line giant Amazon.Com.   He has his own website at  https://www.deepakchopra.com/ where he updates with latest content almost daily.

DEDICATED WEBSITE FOR CARTOONIST R.K. LAXMAN

Cartoonist R.K. Laxman.
Courtesy: The Hindu
If there is any man who brought cartoon to mainstream journalism in India, it is none other than R.K. Laxman whose cartoons are full of humour and thought provoking.  Lived a fuller life of 93, Laxman is synonymous with cartoons in the newspaper world.

In memory of this great Indian Cartoonist, a dedicated website was inaugurated on October 24, 2015 by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

You can log on to the website at http://www.rklaxman.com/

The only sad note is RK's website was inaugurated  posthumously where as it should have been hosted in his life time.    Another stalwart in literary world is Ruskin Bond who needs to have a dedicated website, but unfortunately, he don't have so far.   Somebody must come forward to cull out the works of this great child writer  and create a website as a tribute to this Anglo Indian whose love glued to this wonderland - India .

Hope someone  must be listening!

IMPORTANCE OF HANDWRITING

In my childhood, I used to change notebooks  with improved handwriting in a show off before my teachers  and the class.  That attitude remained well after high-school years and I used to carry rough notebook to college and took notes in that only to copy back in the concerned note book in leisure hours or at home.  Still I don't know why I get so much joy when I write on paper.  But after graduation and settling in life,  for more than a decade, I was out of sync with this forgotten passion, as handwriting was limited just for putting signature on salary rolls and bank transactions. Since I was not in re-creative mode,  I burned out with my go-office only  routine life style.

But  the year 2003 had brought drastic change in my life style.  I became vexed with the  dry professional routine as learning curve was at its lowest ebb and my heart deeply craved to   to bring learning and creativity back to my life.

DELHI OBSERVED CAR-FREE-DAY

It seems  that decades may take to bring awareness among majority of folks in India   on cleanliness in public places.  Even some educated are no different from  uncivilised folks who throw filth on roads in full public gaze.

Government is desperately trying to alter the city folks behaviour, but Delhi has to travel years to have clean roads, especially clean public toilets.  I wrote several posts on these raging issues  expressing my anguish.

I commute daily through Delhi Metro where some times a few  youngsters deliberately throw their empty cool drink cans, chocolate/chips wrappers on platform as a fun.  I don't know why they do so ?

LET US HELP A CHILD TO STUDY

Activity: Help A Child to Study sponsors the higher education of meritorious underprivileged students, supporting them to achieve dreams of a better future. We sponsor all formal courses above 10th, including 11th and 12th, diploma courses, degree courses, B.E., M.B.B.S. and Postgrad. Through education our students are able to escape the cycle of poverty through their own talents.
Details: We are very proud of our students - who are the children of labourers, small scale farmers, weavers and other families with low incomes. These students have enormous potential to succeed and only need financial support to do so. We are thrilled that today some of our graduates are placed with large companies such as Mahindra Tech, L&T, and TATA Consultancy Services.

Support: Education, higher education, sponsorship of students.

Note: We are looking for financial donations to support the higher education of our students, most of whom live in rural areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

SERENITY PRAYER

When you wake up in the morning, pray to the Almighty only peace and beyond that  ask nothing !  The reason is when you are in peace, you could handle any situation.  Peace means composure.

When I was in my 20s and freshly employed, my boss used to suggest me to pray God not  for abundant wealth,  but rather for a smooth flow of life.   Those eternal words of mid-90s  of my boss  who was an Army's colonel are still echoing in my ears.

One of my morning prayer doesn't put any wishlist before God, but ask Him only one thing : Please don't snatch Enthusiasm from my life.  In fact, it is  vital oxygen to my system.  Even not having it for a fraction of second, I feel deeply suffocated.  The blogger or writer in me will be paralysed.

OXFORD WORDS BLOG

One of the most essential qualities to earn love and respect in the Bloggers' World  is to have signature style on your expression.

Whatever the language you choose, the expression must be of high order.  It is simply not writing in a haphazard manner.   In the process of increasing the frequency of blog posts, one should not compromise on  the quality of writing.

Unless you are a professional blogger, in the daily tug-of-war with professional compulsions, it is not as easy as said to  prune language abilities for better writing.  I don't think there is a rich vocabulary or poor vocabulary.  The vocabulary must be in tune with the context.

MAP YOUR GENOME

Image result for GENOMEIn its April, 7, 2014 edition, one of India's prominent English News Magazine, India Today had brought out one interesting story : 10 Medical Marvels poised to save your life.  In that insightful article which  enumerated the new medical advances/procedures/gadgets /tests that will knock at our hospital doors, one sub-story Map Your Genes caught my eye.

Considering the health complications and lifestyle diseases that lead to  surge in mortality rates in youngsters, we will definitely need to take our genes tested much early in life so that the future diseases that may crop up are detected much early and preventive medicine is taken to limp back to normalcy.

The power of future medicine lies in this cutting edge technology called genome mapping.

Aligning of horoscopes for marriages must be replaced by this genome patri, a blueprint of your biological destiny.  As explained in the story, the genome map will predict disease risks like alcoholism, male baldness, cancer, diabetes etc.
